The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) innovation cooperation seminar was held in Suzhou from 4 to 5 November 2019. The Beijing APEC Technology Transfer Center hosted this event. Attendees included the APEC secretariat, representatives of various of APEC centers, domestic APEC project experts, the Suzhou International science and technology cooperation base, and representatives from multiple innovation incubators. They shared their experiences and suggestions with each other in regards to promoting the APEC center and Asia-Pacific region cooperation in the fields of science and technology.
Catherine Zhou, CEO of EcoKMC, was invited to attend this seminar and delivered a speech on the theme of “practical thinking in regards to China-U.S. technical cooperation in international incubators.”
Zhao Jing, deputy director of the department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, attended the meeting and pointed out: “The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is the most influential organization in the Asia-Pacific region and even worldwide. The APEC technology transfer center is an important section of APEC cooperation, taking a significant role in realizing APEC goals and missions. APEC leaders emphasize frequently that scientific and technological innovation plays a key role in development, and we must establish and maintain partnerships to strengthen innovation cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.”
At the seminar, three science and technology innovation institutions exchanged ideas on the role of universities in innovation and entrepreneurship, norms of transnational technical cooperation, big data, and technological decision-making innovations. Representatives from various APEC centers shared relevant information and discussed cooperation and operating models among the APEC centers.
This seminar promoted the implementation of the “Suzhou announcement” which is the outcome of the second APEC central cooperation conference in 2018. Participants came from several APEC working groups and committees, establishing a new cross-border communication platform, and discussed initiatives for innovation cooperation to realize the APEC Technology Transfer Center’s mission.
